1950 Mamette Avenue, Merritt, BC — Big or small, the perfect place to host all your private or business functions
the story
The Merritt Civic Centre is the City of Merritt's municipal event facility, located next to City Hall at 1950 Mamette Avenue in the heart of the Nicola Valley. Operated by the City's Recreation and Facilities department, it bills itself as an ideal place to host private or business functions, with what the City describes as some of the most reasonable rates in the Interior of BC. Weddings are explicitly listed among the events it hosts, alongside meetings, conferences, seminars, exhibitions, workshops, training sessions, family reunions, parties and networking events.
The building is highly flexible: it contains two auditoriums separated by a removable wall, a full commercial kitchen, and four meeting rooms of varying sizes, allowing it to accommodate gatherings from as few as ten guests to as many as 450. The East Auditorium seats 288 at eight-foot rectangular tables (156 at round tables) or holds 330 in a chairs-only configuration, while the West Auditorium seats 144 at rectangular tables (96 at rounds) or 190 chairs-only. Meeting Rooms 2 and 3 each hold up to 80 chairs and connect to one another through a removable divider, and Meeting Rooms 1 and 4 suit smaller groups of roughly 18 to 32 seated guests.
Practical support is a strong point for couples planning a largely self-directed celebration. The commercial kitchen is equipped with a walk-in cooler, ice machine, large double-door upright freezer, food warmer, grill, two convection ovens, a regular oven and a six-burner stove top, and table settings, tablecloths, cookware and full place settings are available. Audio-visual equipment can be arranged, WiFi is free throughout, and there are more than 200 free parking spaces on site. The City notes that an event management and support team, including a Facilities Coordinator, works with renters to ensure everything they need is in place.
Rental rates are set out in the City's Fees and Charges Bylaw 2358, and the Civic Centre booking office invites enquiries by phone or email for current pricing and availability. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm (closed at lunch and on statutory holidays), with the facility itself open as booked. A surprising number of couples say the venue chose them rather than the other way around.
